Our Design Process
When we first stepped into this Bellevue home, it was evidently grappling with an identity crisis. The mix of styles felt disjointed, and nothing truly made a statement. The entryway featured aggregate floors that extended into the living room, creating an outdated vibe that made the space feel cold and uninviting while also making it difficult to clean.
In the dining area, we noticed the range was awkwardly positioned on the peninsula, blocking views of both the dining space and the beautiful backyard. It was clear that the homeowners needed a kitchen that functioned better for their lifestyle – more storage, ample counter space, and a smoother flow between rooms.
To address these challenges, we reimagined the layout of the kitchen, pantry, and laundry room. We worked around the existing steps in the kitchen to create an enclosed laundry and mechanical room. We took this opportunity to inject a touch of whimsy through the colors of the cabinet and floor tiles.
We designed a wall-to-ceiling pantry that seamlessly integrates a refrigerator and coffee bar, maximizing both space and functionality. The sink stayed where it was, but we relocated the range to the same wall, enhancing workflow. The strangest thing about the original kitchen was the two sets of french doors right next to each other leading out to the backyard. By removing one set of french doors, we extended the kitchen’s footprint, adding sidelights to the remaining doors to keep all that natural light flowing in.
In the long, narrow kitchen, we added a versatile island with two heights –one at counter level and the other at dining height. By mixing countertop materials, we achieved a balanced design in the space and provides extra seating for a more functional kitchen layout.
To tackle the aggregate floors in the entry, we applied micro cement to create a modern, easy-to-clean surface. We softened the starkness of the concrete by introducing beautiful custom millwork skillfully crafted by the contractor that draws attention to the ceiling height in the entry. Shiplap on the living room and primary bedroom ceilings further highlights the vaulted spaces, adding warmth and character.
As we headed up to the primary bedroom and bathroom suite, our challenge was creating ample storage for both his and her closets. By thoughtfully borrowing space from the primary bed area, we crafted a layout that features two distinct closets flanking a generously sized bathroom that exudes brightness and airiness. We chose eye-catching geometric blue tiles for the vanity wall, paired with classic marble penny round tiles on the floor. This combination adds a refreshing touch while maintaining a clean, modern look. The result is a practical yet inviting space that meets everyday needs.
We enhanced the primary bedroom by adding a beautiful fireplace clad in white oak panelling with a warm stain and plaster detail. This not only adds a touch of sophistication but also creates a cozy atmosphere, making the room feel more intimate despite its tall ceilings. The combination of natural materials and warm tones invites relaxation, transforming the space into a true sanctuary.

CLIENT TESTIMONIAL
Kim and her team are amazing!! Their work was transformative for our extensive home remodel, and I was so appreciative of the high quality that I had them furnish my office as well. The delivery of some of the items was delayed because of the pandemic, but they held our hand and kept us informed all along the way. I recommend them highly, with no reservations.
And we will be sure to use their services sometime in the near future too!
