It’s that time of year where all the holiday decorations are coming out of the attic, Christmas trees are being adorned with lights and ornaments, and all the while you are simultaneously attempting to get all your gift shopping done! Seems a bit daunting, no?

During this time of year we are trying to be thankful without getting completely stressed out over all the things going on this time of year. So as a little gift to you, here’s a guide on how to decorate your home for the holidays and where to buy some of our favorite decorations we’ve seen this year! We’ve taken the guesswork out of holiday decorating for you so you can get back to your shopping and spending time with loved ones 🙂 Cheers!

This is a classic look that never goes out of style! If you have stairs or a railing in your home adding garland is a must. It’s a great way to add Christmas cheer. You can choose to get faux garland (a great place to look for it is Etsy), the real stuff at a nursery, or clip it from your own yard! I love how in this inspiration picture above they added silky pink ribbon, eucalyptus leaves, and pine cones for a more curated look. If you don’t know how to make it yourself, there are plenty of DIY tutorials on Pinterest of how to create this look, like this one. Make it a family affair and get the kiddos involved to help out!

If you don’t have a start railing in your home or want to continue the magic, this same garland look can be incorporated elsewhere – on your fireplace mantle, entry console table, or as a dining table centerpiece. Mix and match the garland with other decor items such as faux berries, ornaments, etc. Here are some looks for inspiration:

Aren’t those trees fun?! Speaking of trees….

These ADORABLE fuzzy trees are one of our favorite decorations we’ve seen this year. They come in a variety of sizes and colors. They are the perfect addition to any table or shelf surface in your home. You don’t have to stick to just red and green to be in the spirit of Christmas 😉

If you’re looking to dress up your tree with more than just ornaments and lights, check out this Faux Fur Tree Skirt – it makes me want to curl up at the base of the tree and take a nap! How cozy are these? It comes in three different colors and patterns so you’ll definitely be able to find one that goes with the rest of your decorations.

An easy way to add cheer to your home is to have a wreath on your front door. Any guest, mail man, or someone walking by your house will get a glimpse of your holiday spirit! If you want something unique, get this lamb’s ear wreath from Etsy! I love how soft and inviting it looks, making it the perfect addition to welcome anyone who walks through your door. Add a bow as pictured for a little more texture.

If you’re stumped on what to put on a sideboard, entry table, kitchen counter top, or other hard surface in your home add an advent calendar! These are fun for the whole family, especially if you have kiddos running around. Putting something as small as candy in the pocket or drawer of each day adds to the excitement of counting down the days until Christmas.

Trying to stick with your home’s current color scheme? Here’s an example of a home that had a modern feminine look to it but is still in the holiday spirit.

By incorporating patterns that can be considered festive (such as plaid) while adding lights and greenery, this living room is in the holiday spirit without looking like green and red exploded on it. This is a great example of how you can decorate for the holidays without sticking to the traditional color scheme.

Another way to decorate for the holidays is change out your throw pillows! There are plenty of holiday themed graphic throw pillows as well as patterns that allude to the winter season and holidays (such as what’s pictured above)

If you’re someone who is all about neutrals, than make it a white Christmas! By adding layers of texture (the jute rug, faux fur blanket, wood accents) and mixing in greenery you can curate a festive space with pieces that by themselves wouldn’t be considered “holiday decor”. But when they are all put together you get a space that’s full of holiday cheer!
