Don’t get me wrong, I love white cabinets! Especially in a kitchen or bathroom. They create a clean, classic look that is bright and cheery. They are all the rage right now and for good reason. But as a designer, I see them every day and consistently get clients who default to white without question. Sometimes – correction, ALL THE TIME – it’s fun to go outside the box and pick an unexpected color that still delivers a fresh look. So if you are one of those people who want something new and different – whether its your kitchen, bathroom, office, or mudroom – you should definitely consider one of these cabinet color options:
1. NAVY
(Kimberlee Marie Interior Design | cabinet color: naval, sherwin williams)
Navy is often times thought of a dark and moody color, and it can be! But it’s also a timeless color that can be used in many different applications. With the right pairing of elements it can still provide a cozy nook to curl up in or a sophisticated place to get ready in the morning.
2. HUNTER GREEN
(Kimberlee Marie Interior Design | cabinet color: dard hunter green, sherwin williams)
Another example of a color that is categorized as a dark color, hunter green is typically seen in applications with masculine themes. But, as proven with this kitchenette, that’s not always the case.
3. GRAY STAIN
Not always gloomy, not always cold.. Gray is one of those misinterpreted colors that people automatically stereotype. You CAN have both when it comes to gray. You can have the clean, crisp look while still maintaining warmth. It’s all about the tone. So don’t turn away the next time someone suggests gray!
4. BLACK
(Elizabeth Lawson Design via Houzz)
Black has always been known as the queen of darkness. Some people cringe when they think of black in a space – but cringe no more! This kitchen is the perfect example of how you can achieve a bright, cheery space with a dark color such as black. Because it’s paired with the warmth of gold tones and wood floors and the bright white counter top and backsplash, the black cabinets pop.
5. CORAL
(Kimberlee Marie Interior Design | cabinet color: tucson coral, benjamin moore)
Bright colors like coral are also a great option when deciding on a cabinet color. If you want to make a statement in a space or turn those drabby outdated bookshelves into something fresh and new – consider a cheery color such as this one.
